Ed Thomas Family Receive Award: APLINGTON-PARKERSBURG, Iowa – The family of murdered Aplington-Parkersburg football coach Ed Thomas is the recipient of the ” Arthur Ashe Courage Award.” The Ed Thomas Family accepted it during Wednesday night’s annual ESPN “ESPY” Awards. A video tribute showed how Ed Thomas Family rallied the Parkersburg community after the deadly EF-5 tornado in 2008, explained his tragic death the following year, and praised the strength of Ed Thomas Family. The Northern Iowa men’s basketball team also received the “Best Upset” award for beating number one ranked Kansas in the NCAA tournament.
